Scientific and Medical Information Department. Operations
Operations are carried out in the following areas:
Scientific and Medical Information
- Maintain scientific, technical and medical information based on international and national professional literature and available databases of current research, development, and prospective plans of the Institute.
- Research the literature and develop monographs for drugs from selected pharmacological groups of medications manufactured or planned for production by IBA and BIOTON.
- Evaluate selected medical preparations from the pharmacological, clinical and safety of use view point and from the view point of their current and future therapeutic significance, in particular for drugs of various therapeutic application obtained through genetic engineering.
- Create research and implementation curricula and prospective plans for the Institute.
- Conduct lectures and seminars organized by the IBA Scientific Board on the therapeutic applications of selected drugs from various pharmacological groups.
- Develop content of curricula for scientific conferences
and seminars organized by the Institute of Biotechnology
and Antibiotics.
Industrial property protection and patent information.
- Provide patent information required by IBA.
- Assure protection of the intellectual and industrial property of the Institute:
- evaluation of patentability, and drafting selected inventive proposals within formal and legal outlines, filing the applications to the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland (UPRP) and further formal and legal arrangements,
- examination and evaluation of trademark registrability in Poland and other countries, filing the trademarks to the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland and further formal and legal arrangements.
- Perform patent research for Poland and other countries.
- Provide information on the options of and rules for the
use of databases for the purpose of industrial property
protection.
Drug Development and Evaluation
- Regular review of Polish and European pharmaceutical laws in respect of pre-clinical and clinical trials for medicinal products.
- Design pre-clinical and clinical trials for drugs implemented through into production and manufactured by the IBA and BIOTON.
- Arrange for and inspect pre-clinical and clinical trials for biotechnology drugs at all phases.
- Consult and provide expert supervision over projects involving pre-clinical and clinical trials carried out by various Departments.
- Design, organize and develop (in respect of inter alia pharmacokinetics, statistics) the outsourced bioequivalence studies of various medicinal substances (in cooperation with The Pharmacokinetics Laboratory of the Chemical Analysis Department).
- Carry out in-house studies of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of medicinal substances, including biotechnology drugs (in cooperation with The Pharmacokinetics Laboratory of the Chemical Analysis Department).
- Supervise the safety of pharmacotherapy with the drugs manufactured by the Institute of Biotechnology and Antibiotics.
Library
The library has been in place since 1960. The collection covers a large number of scientific publications and magazines in various fields, including analytical chemistry, chemical analysis, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, microbiology, biotechnology, genetics, medical science, pharmacology and pharmaceutics, as required by the subjects and matters explored by IBA research scientists in their scientific and research works and in the pursuit of self-improvement for the benefit of future tasks.
Nature of the collection:
- Highly specialized materials updated in respect of the content to include scientific progress in respective fields.
- Foreign magazines, currently 18 titles are subscribed (see the List)
